11:40AM - Call for Anime & Manga Review Writers

JIVE Magazine www.jivemagazine.com is a quarterly print mini-magazine out of Atlanta. We are presently looking for writers to review Anime and Manga for the web and for print. All submissions are pro-bono. In return for your reviews, you receive press entry to certain conferences, press release information and other opportunities to make a name for yourself as an Anime & Manga journalist with an established webzine and print magazine. There is also the eventual opportunity to conduct interviews with star talent, voice actors, artists and directors as you develop tenure as a writer for JIVE. If accepted, a formal Nondisclosure Agreement (NDA) will be sent to you and is required to be on file with us prior to receipt of any pre-release or press information. If interested, please email a short writing sample of an Anime or Manga review to articles at jivemagazine dot com for screening. Replies without a writing sample will not be responded to.

9:47AM - Call for music review writers

JIVE Magazine www.jivemagazine.com is a quarterly print mini-magazine out of Atlanta. We are looking for writers to review not yet released preview music. All submissions are pro-bono only as we are a grassroots, non-profit magazine. In return for your reviews, you receive access to exclusive previews among other opportunities to make a name for yourself as a music journalist with an established webzine and print magazine. Because the music you will have access to is not yet street released to the public, a formal Nondisclosure Agreement (NDA) will be sent to you and is required to be on file with us prior to receipt of the music and press information via FTP (or via US Mail in the case of vinyl previews). There is also the eventual opportunity to conduct interviews with star talent as you develop tenure as a writer for JIVE.

Here are the types of music we need reviewers for:
All forms of "Electronica", Dance, Techno, Industrial, House, Trance, Commercial DJ Mixed Sets, Hip-Hop, Electro Rock, Drum & Bass, Downtempo, Intelligent (IDM), Electronic World Music, Indie rock with electro or electronic elements.

3:13AM - Call for Writers and Photographers

JIVE Magazine, an electronic entertainment magazine out of Atlanta prints a mini-pocket magazine every three months.

We are looking for review writers and photographers to write about and cover the following topics:

Anime & Manga
Art Film
Gaming – PC or console video games
Popular Movies – all types – recent box office or DVD released
Fashion - runway, on location and studio shoots
Art
Literature
Poetry
Slam
Spoken Word
Theatre
Columnists/features on the topics of college life, urban or street life, yuppies, geek life, and cyberculture
Music (CD and Vinyl)– All forms of "Electronica", Dance, Techno, Industrial, House, Trance, Commercial DJ Mixed Sets, Hip-Hop, Electro Rock, Drum & Bass, Downtempo, Intelligent (IDM), Electronic World Music, Indie rock with electro or electronic elements.

The work we recruit is presently pro-bono only. There are immediate perks, however, such as review of advanced promo music (NDA required), review of pre-released games (NDA required), other press reviews, press entry to cover certain events. There is the opportunity to see your work in print and begin development and advance in a career as a writer or photographer for a magazine that is growing and becoming established (on the web since 1999 and in print since 2002).

There is also the opportunity to meet talented artists, musicians, performers, developers and designers involved in your work, which can be very rewarding and exciting.

We also have the ability to offer internships for college credit and have established protocol as an internship provider at several universities. If you are in college and need some experience and would like credit hours to go with it, this would be an excellent opportunity.

Here are just a few examples of the type of work involved with working for JIVE Magazine:

Entry into the E3 gaming convention each year (you must write one game review per month for at least six months prior to the convention to qualify).

Entry into some of the best events at Winter Music Conference in Miami each year.

Entry into Dragoncon. Here is our Dragoncon 2003 gallery.

Here’s another example of photographic coverage of Cosplay.

(Note: There are very specific quotas to be met each year to qualify as Press for these events).

Entry into press screenings of certain movies, art shows, and theatre events.

JIVE Magazine receives attention from Game Developers, Music and Media/Press Reps, and event promotions. We have even been featured on slashdot.org on more than one occasion:

JIVE Magazine is currently recruiting amateur event and fashion digital photographers in the Atlanta area. This is an ideal opportunity to build on your portfolio and have your work seen both in print and located on a prominent webzine (1.2 million accesses per month).

If you are looking for a way to get your foot in the door for fashion photography (runway and studio shoots) or would like to break into music and club event photography, please send at least two high resolution example photos of your work that have the following theme:

** photos of young people together in various lighting and settings

** event photography from a club, festival, conference or concert

This is for portfolio and resume building pro-bono work (unpaid at this time), but we offer college internships and co-oping for academic credit. We also assist with portfolio presentation and we may publish your work in our layouts for use in print galleries and articles.
